Baylor vs. Oklahoma 2012 Final Score: Sooners pull away for 42-34 win

Baylor proved a pesky opponent, but the Sooners held on for a 42-34 win Saturday.

Brett Deering

The No. 12 Oklahoma Sooners (7-2) held on for a 42-34 win over the Baylor Bears (4-5) Saturday, but Baylor made the game closer than expected several times.

Oklahoma took a 42-26 lead on the first play of the fourth quarter on a 55-yard touchdown run by Blake Bell. The Sooners held that lead until the final two minutes when Lache Seastrunk scored on his third touchdown run of the game and the Bears converted a 2-point conversion to make it 42-34. Baylor couldn't come up with the onside kick, though, and Oklahoma ran out the clock.

That wasn't the first instance of the game tightening up, however. Oklahoma led 21-10 in the second quarter on two touchdowns by Brennan Clay and one by Damien Williams, but Seastruck scored midway through the second to make it 21-17.

Oklahoma took a 28-17 lead on a touchdown reception by Justin Brown just before halftime, but Baylor scored the first nine points of the third quarter on a field goal and then a touchdown by Seastrunk. Baylor went for a 2-point conversion to tie it, but didn’t get it.

Williams had 23 carries for 98 yards for Oklahoma. Seastrunk had 15 carries for 91 yards for Baylor and Nick Florence passed for 172 yards and rushed for 83.

Box Score Hero: Landry Jones was 25 for 36 passing for 278 yards with two touchdowns and an interception. Jones threw the first touchdown pass of the game and he came up with a big touchdown pass just before halftime, when it appeared Baylor was closing the gap.

Rankings Ramifications: Oklahoma came in ranked No. 12 and could move up depending on what happens with teams ahead of them.

But Did They Cover? Oklahoma was favored by 19.5 points, so the Sooners did not cover.

Next Week’s Schedule: Oklahoma plays at West Virginia at 7 p.m. Nov. 17. Baylor hosts Kansas State at 8 p.m. Nov. 17.
