Harris Poll Top 25, Week 12: Oregon the new No. 1 after Alabama loss

Alabama lost to Texas A&M and Oregon beat Cal, setting the stage for the Ducks to take over the No. 1 spot in this week’s Harris Poll.

The Oregon Ducks continue to tear through their Pac-12 season, and at 10-0, they have finally been rewarded with the No. 1 overall ranking in this week's Harris Poll.

Last week’s No. 1, Alabama, lost at home to Texas A&M and fell to No. 4.

Kansas State and Notre Dame, who are also 10-0, slid up to Nos. 2 and 3.

All four teams at the top of the poll received at least one first place vote, with Oregon netting a total of 90.

With the loss, Alabama is also out of the immediate National Championship picture, but that can still change. The Crimson Tide have one SEC game left and seem to be headed toward a conference championship appearance. If they win out, they can still find themselves playing on the season’s final day.

Meanwhile in College Station, Texas A&M moved up five spots to No. 10 this week with their upset win.

The Harris Poll is one of the elements used to calculate the BCS standings, making a high ranking extremely helpful to a team’s National Championship hopes -- good news for Oregon and Kansas State.
