Georgia football: Starter Chase Vasser done for year with injury

Georgia Bulldogs outside linebacker Chase Vasser will have surgery to repair a torn labrum, taking him out for the rest of the season.

The Georgia Bulldogs will be without starter Chase Vasser for the remainder of the season, the school announced. Vasser, the fourth starter the Bulldogs have lost, tore a labrum in his left shoulder in Georgia's win over Kentucky. Vasser will undergo surgery to repair the shoulder next week.

The outside linebacker had 19 tackles, including four for a loss, in five games. That's well ahead of his totals from sophomore year, when he managed 16 tackles in 12 games. Though he has yet to record a sack, Vasser is credited with hurrying the quarterback five times, according to CFB Stats. Freshman Josh Harvey-Clemons has been filling in on defense for Vasser.

Wide receivers Marlon Brown and Michael Bennett were previously taken out by season-ending knee injuries, and the Bulldogs lost defensive end Abry Jones to ankle surgery. The injuries haven't done too much to slow down the Bulldogs, who are 9-1 and have taken the SEC East.
