Colorado State vs. Boise State 2012 Results: Broncos rout Rams, 42-14

Boise State jumped out to a 42-0 lead at the half and never looked back.

Brian Losness-US PRESSWIRE

It was all Boise St. Broncos on Saturday afternoon on the blue turf of Bronco Stadium, as they routed the Colorado St. Rams, 42-14, on Saturday.

Boise State (9-2, 6-1 Mountain West Conference) struck early and often, opening the beatdown with an 80-yard run by senior running back D.J. Harper at the 12:18 mark of the first quarter. Harper found the end zone again with 6:52 to go in the first quarter to give the Broncos at 14-0 lead.

The second quarter saw the Broncos explode for 21 unanswered points, fueled by a 12-yard Chris Potter scamper for a score, and two touchdown passes by quarterback Joe Southwick; a 5-yard pass to wide receiver Matt Miller and an 18-yard strike to freshman tight end Holden Huff.

Boise State kept piling it on in the second half, scoring on a 1-yard run by backup quarterback Grant Hedrick to pull ahead 42-0.

With 2:09 remaining in the third quarter, the Rams (3-8, 2-5 MWC) managed to avoid a shutout when running back Chris Nwoke broke free for a 72-yard touchdown run.

The Rams managed another score with 5:09 to go in the fourth on a 30-yard touchdown pass from Conner Smith to senior wide receiver Marquise Law.

Box Score Hero: Harper led the way for the Broncos, rushing for 107 yards and two touchdowns on 10 carries. Southwick was also stellar, completing 17 of 20 passes for 216 yards and two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: Beating up on a lackluster opponent might not be enough to sneak the Broncos into the AP Top 25, but they will likely receive more than the 14 votes they were given in last week’s poll.

But Did They Cover? Boise State just missed covering the spread, as they were 30-point favorites heading into the game.
