Bill Cubit fired as Western Michigan football coach, according to reports

Western Michigan finished the season by losing two games in a row.

Western Michigan University has fired head coach Bill Cubit, according to Joe Schad of ESPN and others. Western Michigan lost to Eastern Michigan on Saturday, 29-23, to fall to 4-8 on the season overall and 2-6 in conference play. The Broncos finished the season with back-to-back losses and lost five of their last six games.

Including this season, Cubit has a 51-47 record overall and is 36-27 against Mid-American Conference opponents. This season was Cubit’s eighth at Western Michigan.

Under Cubit, the Broncos participated in three postseason bowl games, most recently in the Little Caesars bowl in 2011, and made history in 2010 by becoming the first MAC team to play at Notre Dame.

Before arriving in Kalamazoo, Mich., in 2004, Cubit was the quarterbacks coach for two seasons at Stanford (2003-04) and was also the team’s offensive coordinator in 2004. Cubit has also served as the offensive coordinator and quarterbacks coach at Rutgers (2001-02) and Missouri (2000).
