Kansas State vs. Baylor score update: Wildcats trail 28-17 at the half

No. 1 Kansas State used some furious play in the final minutes of the first half to get back within striking distance of Baylor, trailing the Bears, 28-17, at halftime.

Baylor roared to a 28-7 lead midway through the second quarter with running back Glasco Martin's 2-yard touchdown run appearing to give the Bears a commanding lead at home.

The Wildcats' strong finish to the half was sparked by Tramaine Thompson's 33-yard kickoff return following Martin's touchdown run, giving K-State quarterback Collin Klein and his offense a short field with which to climb back into the game.

Klein completed four consecutive passes to move the ball 63 yards in about a minute, boosted by a 15-yard pass interference penalty that moved Kansas State into the red zone. Klein connected with Chris Harper for 7 yards two plays later to pull Kansas State to withing two touchdowns with just under two minutes remaining in the half.

The Wildcats’ quarterback moved the ball efficiently once more after Baylor’s three-and-out, getting Kansas State to the Bears’ 6-yard line in under a minute, before the drive stalled with time winding down in the half. Anthony Cantele’s 23-yard field goal capped off the 10-point flurry for Kansas State.

Klein was 14-for-20 for 149 yards, two touchdowns and an interception in the first half, while Baylor quarterback Nick Florence went 18-for-25 for 178 yards, two touchdowns and an interception.
