The Oklahoma Sooners and West Virginia Mountaineers combined for over 1,400 yards of total offense in a wild contest in Morgantown. Landry Jones overcame a game for the ages from Tavon Austin to lead Oklahoma to victory.
Oklahoma got off to a smashing start behind Landry Jones, who found Trey Millard to put the Sooners up 7-0. Oklahoma and West Virginia woudl trade field goals, and then Andrew Buie tied things up at 10-10. Jones responded with a 76 yard connection to Jalen Saunders and a four yard touchdown to Kenny Stills to take a 24-10 lead, and the two teams would trade touchdowns before halftime.
West Virginia began to close the gap in the second half. Tavon Austin amassed an incredible 572 all-purpose yards and would score from 74 and three yards out to cut the lead to 38-30. Geno Smitth would then connect with Stedman Bailey from four, eight, and 40 yards to put West Virginia in the lead late. However, Jones would do just enough, connecting with Kenny Stills for three touchdowns in the second half to nudge Oklahoma ahead. This included the game-winner with 26 seconds remaining.
