Mike Price retiring as UTEP football coach, according to report

Mike Price, who has coached UTEP for the last nine seasons, will reportedly retire as UTEP head coach following the 2012 season.

Marvin Gentry-US PRESSWIRE

Mike Price will retire as UTEP Miners head coach, according to Pete Roussel of CoachingSearch.com.

UTEP's 2012 season finale will come on Saturday, Nov. 24, when the Miners play host to the Rice Owls. With a 3-8 record headed into the season finale, UTEP is not bowl eligible this season. Price was hired as UTEP's football coach in Dec. 2003, just seven months after Price's contract with Alabama was terminated because of off-field misconduct.

In his nine years as UTEP head coach, Price led UTEP to a 47-60 record, and three bowl games. Unfortunately for the Miners, Price lost each bowl game he coached in with UTEP, losing the 2004 Houston Bowl, 2005 GMAC Bowl and 2010 New Mexico Bowl.

Price is just one of two head coaches to lead UTEP to three bowl games. UTEP never won a conference title under Price, and never finished better than second in the West division of the Mountain West Conference.

Price spent time coaching both Weber State and Washington State prior to UTEP. As head coach of Washington State, Price led the Cougars to two Pac-10 titles, and consequently, two Rose Bowl appearances.

If Price decides to step away from coaching altogether, he will end his coaching career with a 176-182 record, with one more game to be determined on Saturday.
