Jim Tressel celebrated at Ohio State as bowl ban looms

The 2002 national championship team was honored at Michigan-Ohio State, including Jim Tressel, who got one more championship ride around the end zone.

If not for Jim Tressel, Ohio State would probably not be playing its last game of the season right now. It might not be unbeaten as it takes on Michigan, but odds are pretty good it would have a bowl game or a Big Ten title game to head to next if Tressel’s benefits coverup hadn’t gotten the Buckeyes banned from the postseason.

If not for Jim Tressel, Ohio State also probably would not have won the 2002 national title, which is being honored in Columbus during the game. It’s been 10 years, you see. (And having the show-caused Tressel back is a nice little way to stick a thumb in the NCAA’s eye, in case you like that kind of thing.)

Things are complicated, and Tressel isn’t likely to get to celebrate much of anything in his current gig at Akron any time soon. If Ohio State fans are happy to have him back, then good for everybody involved. Just let us know as soon as Ohio State’s cool with honoring Terrelle Pryor.
