Auburn vs. Alabama 2012 final score: Tide dominates every part of game in 49-0 win

The Alabama Crimson Tide was nearly flawless against Auburn.

Kevin C. Cox

The No. 2 Alabama Crimson tide did exactly what it was expected to do on Saturday, destroying the Auburn Tigers in a 49-0 win. Alabama's offense put up 486 total yards and seven touchdowns, while the Tide defense completely shut the Tigers down.

Mistakes by Alabama were few and far between, though Kenyan Drake did fumble late in the third quarter. Alabama's defense was quick to correct things, intercepting Jonathan Wallace on the fifth play of the following Auburn drive.

Alabama dominated Auburn in virtually every facet of the game. Auburn had 25 first downs, Alabama had seven. The Tigers were 4-12 on third down, while the Tide went 11-14. Auburn picked up eight penalties for 77 yards, while Alabama had only two flags for 10 yards, both in the first half.

By the fourth quarter, Alabama had pulled starters. Quarterback A.J. McCarron left, replaced by Blake Sims. Sims went 0-1 passing.

Wallace, making the first road start of his college career, went 5-of-14 for 71 yards and two interceptions on the day. Obviously he didn't throw any touchdowns, as the Tigers put up a big fat goose egg. Tre Mason had 83 yards on 21 carries, putting him just over 1,000 yards for the year.

Box Score Hero: McCarron was as good as anyone could ask him to be, going 15-for-21 for 216 yards with four touchdowns. Two of those went to Amari Cooper, who had 109 yards on five receptions. Eddie Lacy kept the Tide grinding on the ground, adding 131 yards on 18 carries with two touchdowns.

Rankings Ramifications: At No. 2, Alabama’s ability to climb in the rankings depends entirely on how Notre Dame handles USC.

But Did They Cover? Favored by 34, Alabama had the spread covered before the end of the second quarter.
