Virginia vs. NC State 2012 results: Cavaliers pull off upset, defeat Wolfpack, 33-6

Virginia’s defense forced five N.C. State turnovers, as the Cavaliers cruised to a 33-6 win over the Wolfpack to notch their first ACC win of the season.

The Virginia Cavaliers (3-6, 1-4) notched their first ACC win of the 2012 season on Saturday, with a dominating 33-6 win over the N.C. State Wolfpack (5-4, 2-3).

Virginia jumped out to a quick 14-0 lead in the first quarter. Both members of Virginia's tag-team quarterback duo scored in the first, as Phillip Sims rushed for a 1-yard touchdown, before Michael Rocco connected with Darius Jennings on a 17-yard touchdown strike at the end of the quarter.

Virginia added a safety in the second quarter, and entered halftime with a 16-0 lead.

Sims helped put the game out of reach early in the third quarter, when he completed a 38-yard touchdown pass to Tim Smith, giving the Cavaliers a commanding 23-0 lead.

Virginia's defense was nothing short of dominant, forcing five Wolfpack turnovers. N.C. State quarterback Mike Glennon was just 23-of-46 passing for 197 yards, with a touchdown and three interceptions.

N.C. State was held to just 19 rushing yards on 24 carries.

Virginia outgained N.C. State, 446-216, in total yards.

Box Score Hero: Kevin Parks rushed for 115 yards on 25 carries and a touchdown for the Cavaliers.

Rankings Ramifications: Neither team will factor into next week’s rankings.

But Did They Cover? N.C. State was favored by 11.5, and failed to cover, as the Cavaliers pulled off the upset win.
