Oklahoma State QB carousel continues: Clint Chelf up next?

The Cowboys may start their third quarterback of the 2012 season as Clint Chelf will split practice snaps with Wes Lunt before Mike Gundy decides who will start against West Virginia.

The Oklahoma State Cowboys have had an interesting time juggling the quarterback position during the 2012 season, and they may have their third different starter of the year when they host the West Virginia Mountaineers on Saturday. Senior quarterback Clint Chelf will split practice time with Wes Lunt this week as the Cowboys will have to decide between the two, Gundy said during his weekly press conference:

“I don’t think we know who our starter will be,” Gundy said at his weekly news conference. “I’m fairly confident that we’ll have Wes and Clint out there practicing and be in a situation that whoever we think gives us the best chance to be successful we’ll have in the game.

Chelf was the primary backup for Brandon Weeden, but came out third in a three-way quarterback battle during the spring between himself, Lunt and J.W. Walsh. Lunt earned the starting nod, but an injury forced him out of the lineup in the third game of the season.

The injuries continued for the Cowboys as Walsh was lost for the season with a knee injury and Lunt re-assumed the starting role. He was banged up against Kansas State, though, and Chelf was forced into the lineup.

Chelf completed 16-of-27 passes for 233 yards, a touchdown and an interception against the Wildcats, but it wasn’t enough to make up a big deficit for the Cowboys.
