Bobby Petrino interested in Kentucky job, other SEC jobs

It had to happen: Bobby Petrino’s name has come up in the Kentucky head coach discussion, despite earlier reports that he was not a candidate.

Bobby Petrino is interested in being the head coach of the Kentucky Wildcats, reports the Courier-Journal. The report comes from Petrino's father, who said that his son didn't need the money, but he did miss coaching:

“I know he wants a job; he needs a job. He told me, ‘I need a job, Dad.‘ I said, ‘Well, you must still have some money. You made 31/2 million dollars.’ And he said, ‘Yeah, I do. It’s not the money.’ He just misses coaching so much.”

Petrino is obviously a choice who would come with some baggage, but he is also regarded as a great offensive mind. Earlier reports of Kentucky’s head coach search indicated that Petrino was not under consideration, but in any search his name is inevitably mentioned by journalists and fans alike. According to his father, Petrino is specifically interested in the Kentucky job but overall simply wants to return to the SEC.

Petrino was most recently the coach of the Arkansas Razorbacks, taking that job in December of 2007 after resigning as head coach of the Atlanta Falcons. He took the team to a winning record in his first full season and posted 10-win seasons in his next two, before his tenure at the university ended in controversy. A motorcycle accident revealed details of an inappropriate relationship, and Petrino was fired in April of 2011.
