Michael Cole injury update: Virginia Tech safety released from hospital

The Hokies can put a scary moment behind them as Cole should recover from a neck injury suffered on Thursday night against the Seminoles.

A scary moment in Thursday's game between the Virginia Tech Hokies and Florida State Seminoles left Hokies redshirt freshman safety Michael Cole lying face down on the field for a few minutes after trying to tackle Seminoles running back Lonnie Pryor.

Cole left in the third quarter with a neck injury, but according to Hokies head athletic trainer Mike Goforth, Cole will fully recover and be discharged from the hospital Thursday night. Cole mentioned that the injury was a cervical neck sprain and that Cole’s CT scan came back negative for any fracture:

Michael Cole suffered a cervical neck sprain this evening against Florida State. He was conscious on the field, able to move all extremities, but had neck pain and numbness in the upper extremities. He was stabilized on the spine board, and transferred to LewisGale Montgomery Hospital for further testing. His CT scan is negative for any fracture, and he will be discharged home [Thursday night].

While lying on the field, Cole was conscious and able to move his extremities but had neck pain and numbness in his upper extremities.

After looking like they might upset the 10th-ranked Seminoles, the Hokies fell, 28-22, on Thursday after the Seminoles scored a touchdown in the final minute.

Cole has 43 tackles and two interceptions this season.
