Through a quarter and a half of play, Alabama hadn’t picked up a third down. Georgia’s defense had been all over the field, forcing A.J. McCarron into tough throws and shutting down 1,000-yard rusher Eddie Lacy for the most part.

Questonable helmet-to-helmet penalty? Maybe. Regardless, Alabama couldn’t take advantage, and McCarron threw an interception in the end zone.
On a critical third down, McCarron was hit hard, ducking his head, as Georgia was called for a helmet-to-helmet penalty.
That would have brought up 4th down and a potential Alabama field goal. Instead it extended the drive, and on second down Lacy fumbled, with Bama recovering at the 4-yard-line. On third down, McCarron threw a costly pick to Sanders Commings. Saban Fury Level: Orange.
