Alabama vs. Georgia 2012 results: Bama claims SEC title, shot at national championship

The Crimson Tide are now off to defend their BCS title after defeating Georgia in the SEC Championship Game.

The Alabama Crimson Tide are on their way to their second consecutive BCS Championship game after they defeated the Georgia Bulldogs 32-28 in the SEC Championship game on Sunday. The final drive gave Georgia a chance to win, as the Dawgs drove to the red zone with seconds left, but a decision to catch a tipped pass short of the goal line or out of bounds line ...

... sent Alabama to Miami. That split-second decision, perhaps coupled with the decision before it not to stop the clock.

It was a back and forth game that featured four lead changes in the second half alone, but Alabama eventually came out on top in a game that went down to the very wire. After one quarter, it didn’t seem like the game would end up nearly as exciting as the two teams were tied 0-0, the first SEC Championship game to have a scoreless first quarter.

The rushing tandem of Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon heated up and Alabama topped their own record of most rushing yards in a SEC Championship game. Lacy finished with 181 yards and Yeldon with 153. In doing so, the Crimson Tide now head to Miami to take on Notre Dame for the BCS Championship, their second consecutive trip and third in four years.

Box Score Hero: Eddie Lacy and T.J. Yeldon each finished with over 100 rushing yards, the first time in history that the SEC Championship Game has a team with two rushers over 100 yards. The duo propelled Alabama to beating its own SEC Championship Game rushing record with a team total of 350 yards.

Rankings Ramifications: With the win, Alabama punched its ticket to play Notre Dame for the BCS Championship.

But Did They Cover? Alabama had an 8- or 9-point spread against Georgia they failed to cover.
