Texas vs. Kansas State 2012 results: Wildcats clinch Big 12 with 42-24 victory

The Kansas State Wildcates clinched the Big 12 Championship on Saturday with a big home win over Texas.

The No. 6 Kansas State Wildcats clinched the Big 12 Championship and the bid to the Fiesta Bowl following Saturday night's 42-24 win over the No. 18 Texas Longhorns.

Kansas State quarterback Collin Klein led the Wildcats to a big second half after trailing 10-7 at halftime and 17-14 midway through the third quarter. Taking advantage of a missed field goal and two turnovers in the fourth quarter, Kansas State scored 28 unanswered points on the way to a big home victory.

With the win, Kansas State will share the Big 12 Championship with No. 11 Oklahoma, who beat TCU earlier in the day. The Wildcats will get the automatic bid to the Fiesta Bowl, which will be played on Jan. 3 in Glendale, Ariz.

The Longhorns finished the regular season in extremely disappointing fashion, blowing two second-half leads with poor defense and three turnovers. Case McCoy, starting in place of David Ash, was nearly perfect if not for two costly interceptions that led to 14 points for Kansas State. McCoy tied the school record with 17 straight completions in the game, going 26-of-33 for 314 with two touchdowns and the two interceptions.

There is a chance the Longhorns could still earn a spot in the Cotton Bowl, despite the 8-4, 5-4 season.

Box Score Hero: Heisman hopeful Collin Klein saved his best stuff for last, overcoming a slow start to go 8-of-14 for 184 yards, one passing touchdown and one interception. Klein added 103 yards on 23 carries and two more touchdowns on the ground.

Rankings Ramifications: Rankings likely won’t change for Kansas State, while Texas could be in danger of slipping out of the top 25.

But Did They Cover? Kansas State covered as 10.5-point favorites.
