Georgia Tech almost wins ACC Championship but doesn’t, which is just so ACC

Y’all didn’t think #goacc would make an appearance tonight. Haha, you’re silly. And so I am.

I know what you’re expecting. Hey, look, Martin is here to write lots of funnies and not so funnies about FSU choking again. But here’s the honest truth: I didn’t even consider this. I never thought one time today Georgia Tech would beat Florida State in the ACC Championship.

Shame on me.

This is the ACC, remember? What is wrong with me? In the ACC, nothing makes sense. It’s a real-life Spike Jonze movie, but instead of us living inside John Malkovich’s head, we’re inside John Swofford’s and what he sees is frightening.

I feel like I have a pretty good grasp on it. I truly do. But then things happen even I can’t explain. GT applied for a waiver to get into a bowl game at 6-7 if/when they lost the ACC title game. No one gave them any shot. Not even me.

And then E.J. Manuel threw a pick and the Yellow Jackets had a chance to win. But they didn’t.

Because even upsets fight an uphill battle in the ACC. They happen when you don’t want them to and don’t happen when you do. The ACC is unpredictable. It’s the IBS of college football conferences, and we’re one beef enchilada from it all self-destructing.

But alas, FSU is playing in the Orange Bowl like it was supposed to. And there is more than enough time for Noles fans to recommit themselves to believing they’re going to stomp Louisville because they’re much more talented and an elite program and Jimbo would never think about leaving. The circle of life continues. The ACC lives on.

And no matter how ugly it gets, I wouldn’t have it any other way.
