Bryan Harsin hired as Arkansas State head coach, according to reports

Arkansas State reportedly hires Texas offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin as their new head coach the same day he interviews for the job.

Brendan Maloney-US PRESSWIRE

Less than a week after former head coach Gus Malzahn left to take over the Auburn Tigers, the Arkansas State Red Wolves have reportedly named Texas Longhorns co-offensive coordinator Bryan Harsin as his replacement.

According to James Bryant of AStateNation.com, who broke the news late Tuesday night, the Red Wolves will announce the hiring at a 2 p.m. press conference on Wednesday.

Harsin reportedly interviewed at Arkansas State on Tuesday, according to reports from the morning. Harsin, technically a co-coordinator at Texas, had been with the Longhorns for two seasons. Previously, he had served as a quarterbacks coach and offensive coordinator with the Boise State Broncos. Harsin played quarterback for the Broncos in the late 1990s.

In his first and only season with Arkansas State in 2012, Malzahn led the Red Wolves to a 9-3 record and a Sun Belt championship before leaving to return to Auburn, where he was previously the offensive coordinator.
