Cincinnati denies Tommy Tuberville’s alleged Lubbock dine-and-dash

According to a report by a 247Sports.com affiliate, former Texas Tech and new Cincinnati head coach Tommy Tuberville walked out on a recruiting dinner midway last Friday night, an accusation the Bearcats deny.

A report that new Cincinnati head football coach Tommy Tuberville left Texas Tech football recruits midway through a recruiting dinner on their official visit is false, according to the Bearcats.

In a story at WreckEm247.com, Tuberville allegedly attended a dinner with at least three recruits last Friday, the day before he accepted the Cincinnati job. According to Devonte Danzey, Tuberville excused himself from the table midway though the meal and never returned:

He added: “The waitress brought our food out, and we thought (Tuberville) went to the bathroom, but he never came back to dinner. Then next thing I know, the next day, he made an announcement that he’s going to Cincinnati.”

When contacted for comment, UC issued the following statement: “Those reports are inaccurate. There was no contact between Coach Tuberville and Cincinnati prior to Saturday morning. Coach said he was at the dinner, talked with everyone, ate and went home.”

An anonymous source within the UC program also refuted the report, adding: “Someone is trying to make something out of nothing.”

Tuberville was announced as the new head coach of the Bearcats on Saturday, a timetable which UC has stated was a one-day window. Athletic director Whit Babcock said during Tuberville’s announcement press conference that he attempted to contact Texas Tech multiple times last Saturday, with no response coming.
