The Michigan Wolverines have suspended three players, including starting defensive back J.T. Floyd and the team's punter, for the Outback Bowl after violating team rules, according to an announcement made by the team Sunday.

Floyd, a senior from South Carolina, was an All-Big Ten Honorable Mention this season. Also suspended were senior linebacker Brandin Hawthorne and junior punter Will Hagerup. Hagerup averaged 45 yards per punt this season and was voted the league's top punter this season. He was also suspended four games for violating team rules last season.

“It is an honor to play football for the University of Michigan, and we have high standards and expectations for everyone that represents our program,” Michigan coach Brady Hoke said, via The Detroit News. “These young men used poor judgment in each circumstance, and these suspensions are teaching moments for our team.”

Michigan plays the South Carolina Gamecocks in the Outback Bowl on New Year's Day.
