Skip Holtz fired as USF head coach, according to report

Skip Holtz is 4-16 in his last 20 games at South Florida.

The University of South Florida has fired head coach Skip Holtz after three seasons, according to Brett McMurphy of ESPN.com.

South Florida ended a disappointing season on Saturday with a 27-3 loss to Pittsburgh. The loss was South Florida’s third in a row and ninth in its last 10 games after the Bulls opened the season with a 2-0 record. South Florida ended the season with a 3-9 record and was 1-6 in conference play.

Holtz was hired by South Florida in 2010 when he coached the Bulls to their fifth consecutive eight-win season and led them to their sixth consecutive bowl game.

South Florida began the 2011 season with a 4-0 record including a win over Notre Dame to open the season. After the fast start, the Bulls finished the season with a 5-7 mark as they lost six of their final seven games by a combined 28 points.

Dating back to last season, South Florida is 4-16 in its last 20 games under Holtz.
