FCS playoff bracket 2012: North Dakota State, other top seeds advanced to quarterfinals

Favorites prevail in the 2012 FCS Tournament’s round of 16 this weekend, setting up an exciting quarterfinal round next weekend.

All five of the top-ranked teams in the 2012 FCS Tournament advanced to the quarterfinals this weekend, setting up what should be a fantastic finish to the non-bowl portion of college football’s top division.

Fifth-seeded Georgia Southern was the only ranked team that won by less than 10 points on the weekend as they were unable to score even a single point against Central Arkansas in the second half. But Georgia Southern’s defense stood firm, keeping Central Arkansas to just seven points in the second half and moved on to the quarterfinals with a 24-16 victory.

Georgia Southern will take on fourth-ranked Old Dominion in the quarterfinal after ODU topped Coastal Carolina in their round of 16 meeting.

Second-ranked Eastern Washington moved on to meet with Illinois State in the quarterfinals.

Top-seeded North Dakota State had little trouble dispatching border foe South Dakota State, 28-3, in their round of 16 meeting and North Dakota State will move on to take on Wofford next weekend.
