Visual proof that Virginia Tech offense scored points in Russell Athletic Bowl

Virginia Tech’s offense went 48 minutes without scoring on Rutgers in the Russell Athletic Bowl.

In fact, it had been 36 minutes since anybody scored, 47 minutes since the last touchdown and an entire eternity since either offense had scored a Russell Athletic touchdown. But in two magical minutes of the fourth quarter, the Hokies posted a field goal, got a quick takeaway on a Gary Nova moonshot to Antone Exum, then watched as Logan Thomas showed off the sparkle that made him a trendy NFL Draft pick with a beautiful, over-the-shoulder throw to Corey Fuller, and voila, we were all tied up.

At this point, one had to recognize what a great job Virginia Tech’s defense has done on the night. Rutgers’ offense is nothing special (unless you’re Arkansas), but still -- holding a bowl team to three offensive points despite getting zero help from your own offense is an achievement. Especially since it was Exum’s big return that put VPI in position to strike the end zone.

If VT can win, a crate of game balls to that D.
