Heisman Trophy winners list from Jay Berwanger to Robert Griffin III

Update: Johnny Manziel has won the 2012 Heisman Trophy.

Saturday night, Texas A&M quarterback Johnny Manziel, Notre Dame linebacker Manti Te'o or Kansas St. quarterback Collin Klein will become the latest in a long line of college football greats to win the Heisman Trophy. What's interesting about this group is none of the three were considered front runners for the award when the season.

Before the season started, USC’s Matt Barkley looked liked a heavy favorite for the award before he and the Trojans stumbled again and again. Then it looked like West Virginia quarterback Geno Smith held front-runner status for a few weeks early in the season. The award then looked like it was Klein’s to lose, which he did when the Wildcats stumbled against Baylor.

Manziel's Heisman moment came a week before the Wildcats loss to Baylor when he led the Aggies in to Tuscaloosa to beat the then top-ranked Alabama Crimson Tide. The redshirt freshman has been spectacular all season and could become the youngest player to ever win the award.

Te’o could become the first defensive player since Charles Woodson to win the award. The senior finished with 103 tackles and seven interceptions for the undefeated Fighting Irish.

Here’s a look at the complete list of Heisman winners:
