The Miami Hurricanes (4-1, 3-0 ACC) outlasted the North Carolina State Wolfpack (3-2, 0-1) on Saturday afternoon at Sun Life Stadium, winning a wild game 44-37 thanks to the arm of quarterback Stephen Morris. Morris threw for 566 yards and five touchdowns, with 271 of those yards coming in the first quarter alone.

Duke Johnson chipped in 39 yards rushing on 12 carries, including a 4-yard touchdown run in the third quarter that put Miami up 30-21. Wide receiver Rashawn Scott was the recipient of six Morris passes, racking up 180 yards and two touchdowns. Teammate Phillip Dorsett also had a huge day, catching seven balls for 191 yards and two scores.

North Carolina State trailed by as many as 16 points in the game, but hung around thanks to the play of quarterback Mike Glennon and running back Tony Creecy. Glennon was 24-of-42 for 440 yards and four touchdowns, while Creecy gained 120 yards on 19 carries, scoring once on the ground.

Box Score Hero: The Miami quarterback made this an easy selection. Morris was 26-of-49 passing for 566 yards and five touchdowns, with one interception. Last Saturday, the junior threw for 436 yards in Miami’s 42-36 overtime defeat of Georgia Tech.

Rankings Ramifications: The Hurricanes received one vote in last week’s AP Top 25 poll, so at the very least today’s victory will likely help Miami garner a few more votes in next week’s poll.

But Did They Cover? Miami, 3-point home favorites, did indeed cover, thanks to the last-minute Morris-to-Dorsett touchdown throw.
