Wisconsin vs. Nebraska: Huskers win, 30-27, after trailing by 17

Nebraska trailed Wisconsin by 17 points in the second half, but they scored 20 unanswered to win, 30-27.

The Nebraska Cornhuskers trailed by 17 points in the second half on Saturday, but they managed to come back and defeat the Wisconsin Badgers, 30-27. The win improves the Huskers to 4-1 and drops the Badgers to 3-2.

Wisconsin got off to a quick start on Saturday, as Montee Ball scored on their first possession to put the Badgers up by seven. Ball would score again on their second drive, and it looked as if Wisconsin was going to be an awfully tough task for the Huskers defense.

Nebraska’s offense would begin to find some rhythm late in the first quarter, adding a field goal to cut the deficit to 14-3. Wisconsin would increase the lead to 20-3 with a Joel Stave touchdown pass (they would miss the extra point), but Nebraska would get a touchdown to cut it to 20-10 at the half.

Ball would make it 27-10 on Wisconsin’s first possession of the second half, but it would be all Nebraska from there. Taylor Martinez would score on a 38-yard run, and he’d add a second touchdown through the air five minutes later.

Nebraska’s defense would continue to shut down the Badger’s offense, and Nebraska would add a pair of field goals to take the lead. Wisconsin would still have a final shot to tie it or take the lead, but Ball’s fumble on 4th and 1 was recovered by Nebraska. The Huskers would run out the clock and seal the 3-point victory.

Box Score Hero: Taylor Martinez had an excellent night for the Huskers. He went 17 of 29 with 182 yards in the air, and he added 100 yards of rushing. He threw for a pair of scores and added one more on the ground.

But Did They Cover? Nebraska were 12-point favorites, so the 3-point win was not enough to cover the spread. The over/under was set at 52.5 points, and the teams combined for 57.
