The South Carolina Gamecocks have hired North Carolina defensive line coach Deke Adams for the same position, according to 247 Sports. Adams spent just one year at UNC, after spending three at Southern Miss. South Carolina is likely focused on Adams for his recruiting prowess, as he served as recruiting coordinator in past positions.

Adams landed five commitments on seven targets in 2012, according to Rivals.com. That included four-star offensive lineman J.J. Patterson, and three-star defensive ends Junior Gnonkonde, Jessie Rogers, and Justin Thomason.
The defensive line coach position came open when Brad Lawing left for Florida earlier this offseason. Adams could give South Carolina a tactical advantage for one of their games in 2013, as the Gamecocks host the Tar Heels on Aug. 31 in Columbia. That game will be part of college football’s first Thursday. The game was originally scheduled to be part of college football’s opening Thursday, but has since been moved to Saturday. It would have been South Carolina’s second-straight Thursday opener, as it defeated Vanderbilt to start the season last year.
