Taylor Lewan returning to Michigan: A look at the 2013 Wolverines

In a stunning decision, Michigan left tackle Taylor Lewan announced he’s coming back to the Wolverines for his senior season.

Matthew Emmons-US PRESSWIRE

In a bit of a shocker, Michigan junior offensive tackle Taylor Lewan announced just moments ago that he will stay in college and spend his senior season with the Wolverines. Despite being projected as a first-round draft pick by many major draft experts, Lewan decided to finish up his college career before trying his hand at the NFL.

Dan Kadar of SB Nation produced a writeup on Lewan as a draft prospect. Lewan has an athletic build that lends himself well to the modern game (tall, long arms, quick feet) but still has issues with technique that might give him trouble the further he develops. Still, the potential is there for Lewan to be special at the next level, which makes his decision all the more surprising.

Lewan's return means Michigan will at least have both of their offensive tackles back. Right tackle Michael Schofield returns, while left guard Ricky Barnum, center Elliott Mealer, and right guard Patrick Omameh all have exhausted eligibility and are moving on. The Wolverines will need to find someone among the next wave of players, like Erik Magnuson, Erik Grunderson, and Joey Burzynski, to replace these players.
