Senior Bowl 2013: Denard Robinson will play as WR

Michigan quarterback Denard Robinson earned an invite to the 2013 Senior Bowl, but as a wide receiver, not a quarterback. He is expected to play some running back, as well.

Michigan's Denard Robinson has earned an invitation to the 2013 Senior Bowl, but as a wide receiver, not as a quarterback, according to Dave Birkett of the Detroit Free Press. Robinson spent almost all of his four seasons at Michigan behind center, although he was more well known for his electric running ability.

Robinson finished the 2012-13 season playing mostly running back for the Wolverines. An arm injury against the Nebraska Cornhuskers knocked him out of the lineup for two weeks. When he was healthy enough to return, his arm still hadn't healed enough for him to throw, and backup Devin Gardner had taken a firm grasp of the starting quarterback job.

Still, Robinson put together a string of impressive performances over the final three games of his career, despite throwing just one pass over that span. He rushed for 98 yards on 13 carries against Iowa, and 122 yards and one touchdown on 10 carries against Ohio State to close out the regular season. He rushed for 100 yards on 23 carries against a Top-20 South Carolina rush defense to become the NCAA’s all-time leading rushing quarterback.
