Florida DT Damien Jacobs says Arkansas OL plays ‘dirty’

The Gators’ defensive lineman expects a fight in the trenches.

Spruce Derden-US PRESSWIRE

When Florida hosts Arkansas Saturday night in an SEC showdown, Gators defensive tackle Damien Jacobs is ready for a tough fight from the Razorbacks' offensive line. In fact, Jacobs expects the Razorbacks' linemen, particularly center Travis Swanson, to keep fighting when the play is over.

Jacobs told Edgar Thompson of the Orlando Sentinel that Arkansas’ O-line is “a little dirty” based on the film he’s seen. The Razorbacks are without a doubt a run-first team under head coach Bret Bielema, and Jacobs believes their physical nature goes over the line. It will be up to the Gators’ defenders to avoid reacting and giving the Hogs any extra yardage via penalties.

“I just see, from film, a lot of stuff after the play, especially with the center, No. 64,” Jacobs said. “He’s a good athlete after the play. He makes you want to do something to him.

“We’re gonna have to try to keep our temper and keep cool on that.”

Strength will meet strength when Arkansas’ rushing attack takes on Florida’s run defense. The Razorbacks rank second in the SEC with 237.0 yards on the ground per game, and the Gators allow just 53.5 rush yards per contest, besting the conference’s second-best team, Alabama, by an average of 50.0 yards.

Arkansas and Florida kickoff from Gainesville’s Ben Hill Griffin Stadium Saturday night at 7 p.m. ET. The game will air on ESPN2.
