Texas A&M, Arizona State working on 2015 game in Houston

The Aggies and Sun Devils could clash at Reliant Stadium in a couple of years.

Thomas Campbell-USA TODAY Sports

Texas A&M and Arizona State are working to set up a non-conference game in Houston in 2015, according to a CBS Sports report.

Earlier in the week, ASU athletic director Steve Patterson confirmed the school was looking into “another major game in an NFL stadium,” though he did not say with what school the Sun Devils were trying to work things out with.

Neither team has committed to play in the game, according to the report, and there are still a lot of things to work out before anything is made official. As Arizona State saw earlier this year with Notre Dame, arranging future matchups with a powerhouse football program can really get complicated.

There would be no shortage of interest on a local and national scale. College Station is about 90 minutes north of Houston, while Arizona State’s humongous alumni base would have little trouble making the trip east. Reliant Stadium holds up to 71,500 fans.

Given how important the state of Texas is to both schools’ recruiting efforts, the national broadcast would be great exposure for both programs.
