Ole Miss’ Serderius Bryant carted off after ugly injury, tells mom he is ‘okay’

One of the Rebels’ defensive leaders went down late.

Update: Bryant reportedly told his mother he is “okay”, but is waiting for results from the hospital.

Ole Miss linebacker Serderius Bryant left the field in the fourth quarter against Texas A&M on a gurney after laying motionless on the field for several minutes. The good news: he was eventually able to signal a thumbs up to the crowd while being carted off.

While going for a tackle, Bryant’s head collided with Aggies quarterback Johnny Manziel’s midsection, driving Bryant’s head and neck at an awkward angle. He collapsed to the turf, with his arm going eerily limp beside him. A&M and Ole Miss players immediately took knees as they looked on, with Rebels coaches and trainers surrounding him. ESPN’s Holly Rowe reported trainers signaled as soon as they arrived by Bryant’s side that he needed to be immobilized.

Bryant, a junior from Florida, has been a key part of Ole Miss’ young defense. He leads the team in tackles.
