College football news: UCF takes down Louisville, Ha Ha Clinton-Dix reinstated

The Louisville Cardinals’ national championship aspirations were blown to pieces on Friday night.

UCF stuns Louisville 38-35

Louisville is now completely out of the national title hunt and UCF suddenly has the inside track to represent the AAC in a BCS bowl after the Knights came back from three touchdowns down in the second half to stun the Cardinals, 38-35. After taking a 28-7 lead halfway through the third quarter, Louisville appeared to be on the verge of coasting to a comfortable win against the last team on its schedule that had a realistic chance of beating Cardinals. But UCF went on a 28-7 and took a three point lead with 23 seconds left in the game on Blake Bortles' 2-yard touchdown strike to Jeff Godfrey. Storm Johnson took over the game in the second half and racked up 188 yards of total offense and recorded a pair of touchdowns.

Clinton-Dix reinstated

Alabama safety Ha Ha Clinton-Dix has been reinstated to the Crimson Tide football team and is eligible to play in Saturday's game against Arkansas. Clinton-Dix had been indefinitely suspended while the NCAA investigated a loan that he accepted from Alabama assistant strength coach Corey Harris. Though his absence were unlikely to have drastically altered The Crimson Tide's fortunes against the Razorbacks, they should nonetheless be thrilled to be getting back what many consider to be their best defensive player and who some project as an early selection in the 2014 NFL Draft.

Tyler Murphy plans to play against Missouri

The Florida Gators, already dangerously low on quarterbacks, got some startling news on Friday when it was learned that Tyler Murphy suffered a shoulder injury during the LSU game. Murphy was able to practice on Thursday and plans to play on Saturday against No. 14 Missouri, but Florida can ill afford to have anything happen to their junior signal caller. The Gators were expecting to have returning 2012 starter Jeff Driskel manning the quarterback position in 2013, but he suffered a season-ending leg fracture during the Gators' 31-17 win over Tennessee on Sept. 21.

Grambling State forfeits game against Jackson State

Citing, among other things, dilapidated facilities and equipment, the Grambling State football players decided that they are not going to travel to play Jackson State this weekend. The school subsequently announced that the game will not be rescheduled and that the result will be a Grambling State forfeit. Jackson State had planned homecoming festivities around the game with Grambling. The celebrations will go on as planned and Jackson State will instead host an open scrimmage.

Demarius Reed victim of apparent homicide

Eastern Michigan wide receiver Demarius Reed was found dead in his off-campus apartment on Friday morning, and Ypsilanti police are treating his death as a homicide. No further details have been made available by the police at this time. Reed was a junior and signed with Eastern Michigan out of Simon Academy in Chicago in 2011.
