Week 6 college football picks: Ohio State-Northwestern shootout, ASU over Irish and more

Presenting the week’s best college football bets. Also, above you can watch Dan Rubenstein break down the weekend’s biggest games while enjoying some delicious sandwiches. Don’t you like sandwiches?

After a solid first week, an awful second week, and a great third week, I sat at 26-22 (54.2 percent, +$258). Week 4 did not go as well, and I treaded water in Week 5 to sit at 45-43 (-$102). Let's get to the wagers.

As usual, I’ll discuss the games involving ranked teams here and will discuss any other game in the comments section.

I rarely bet on Florida State, and over the last few years, the Seminoles have not been great against the spread. But I do like the Seminoles here, particularly due to the extremely soft schedule played by Maryland in amassing that 4-0 record and No. 25 ranking in the AP Poll. I do worry about the weather in this contest, due to the potential for a tropical depression to make landfall Saturday, but I’m going with the Noles and the over here.

I still believe there is value in betting against Minnesota, and this week Michigan gets the chance to lay the wood at home. The Gophers have been one of the luckiest teams in the country through four FBS games, and they cannot throw the football if they get down.

I like Ohio State’s explosiveness on offense, and don’t think the Buckeyes play great defense. I’d take the Buckeyes here, but think the over provides more value, thanks to Northwestern’s diversity on offense.

Georgia Tech gets two extra days to prepare for the Miami Hurricanes, and we don't know if Stephen Morris will play. Tech's defense hasn't been all that bad this year, and if they hold on to the football, they'll have a chance to keep it close late with the Hurricanes.

I like UCLA a lot, but think they might be slightly overrated. Night games in Utah are tough, and Utah can stop the run and throw the football. I also considered the over here.

I like Clemson, and think its defense is improved, but Syracuse’s offense is much improved after the quarterback change, and 14 is too much to pass up at home.

Arkansas has an underrated defensive line, and Florida’s defense is exceptional, so the under has a real chance in the Swamp even though the number is quite low.

Oklahoma State was somewhat unlucky last week in Morgantown, but even accounting for the bad luck, it did not play well. But Kansas State is not very good at all, and I expect the Cowboys to take care of business at home in convincing fashion.

Could undefeated Texas Tech be underrated? I think its defense certainly is, and Kliff Kingsbury has this squad playing well.

Baylor off a bye week against West Virginia? People being convinced West Virginia has turned it around after beating Oklahoma State? Correction coming.
