The first BCS standings of 2013 will be released Sunday, and with them returns ESPN’s BCS countdown show. The broadcast will air weekly and unveil the fresh standings from No. 25 to No. 1.

It’s time to begin obsessing over which teams are ranked where in the weekly BCS standings.

Barring a big surprise, Alabama and Oregon will be ranked Nos. 1 and 2 in the first standings of the year. The Crimson Tide and Ducks were the top two teams in the initial Harris Poll released last week, and they’ve been the top teams all year in the USA Today Coaches Poll. The computers used in the standings like Alabama and Oregon, too.
The new polls and computer rankings will be released throughout the day Sunday, all leading up to the first official standings of the year. New standings will come out on each of the seven following Sundays. The final set comes out on Dec. 8, the day after the Big Ten, Pac-12 and SEC championship games, which will determine the BCS Championship Game participants.
This season’s title game will be held on Monday, Jan. 6, 2014, at the Rose Bowl in Pasadena, Calif. It’s the final season of the BCS era, and the last season in which only the top two teams will have a shot at the national championship. Beginning next year, the College Football Playoff will provide four teams the chance to compete at the end of the year for the top spot.
