A new college football bowl game is coming to Marlins Park in Miami, according to a report from Brett McMurphy of ESPN. The newly-minted Miami Beach Bowl is expected to pit teams from the American Athletic Conference against schools from Conference USA, the Mid-American Conference and the Sun Belt. A press conference is scheduled for Thursday at the park, according to McMurphy.
New college football bowl game to be played at Marlins Park
The Miami Beach Bowl is coming soon, though unfortunately it will not be played on the beach.

The Miami Beach Bowl is one of several new games coming to the bowl slate in 2014, including a bowl in the Bahamas as well as one in Boca Raton. Conference USA will be involved with both of those games as well, and the AAC will be one of the rotational partners with the contest in Boca Raton -- and possibly the Bahamas Bowl, too.
The game at the recently-completed Marlins Park will have one of the more, uh, colorful backdrops in the country. The structure seen below sits beyond the center field wall, and this is what it does when the Marlins hit a home run:
SB Nation’s Grant Brisbee accurately described the contraption back before the stadium was completed:
It’s what Bernie Brewer thinks he’s sliding down after a couple buttons of peyote. Don’t avert your eyes. Look at it. Study it. This is what we’ve become.
If Carnival and Las Vegas had a baby, this would be the placenta. If Charlton Heston ever lands on Planet of the Fish, this will be their version of the “It’s a Small World” ride. This is what would happen if Vikings attacked a Gloria Estefan concert by catapulting flamingos and marlins into the pyrotechnics display.
The question now, I assume, is not if they will use the center field acid-trip generator during the bowl game, but when they will use it. That has to be the entire point of playing this game in Marlins Park. Get as much mileage out of that thing that we, as a nation, possibly can.
