The Cornhuskers began the season questionably, with a close win over Wyoming and a blowout loss to UCLA among their first three games. However, their past three wins have come in convincing fashion over South Dakota State, Illinois and Purdue, even without starting quarterback Taylor Martinez.
Minnesota has had an up-and-down season, but its highlight clearly came last week, when it defeated Northwestern, 20-17, in Evanston to secure its first Big Ten win of the year. It is now one win away from bowl eligibility, but a tough remaining schedule makes a road contest at Indiana the most likely victory.
The numbers
Rankings and records: Nebraska is ranked No. 24 in the BCS, No. 25 in the AP and No. 21 in the Coaches’ Poll. Minnesota is unranked. The Cornhuskers are 5-1 this year, with a 2-0 record in the Big Ten. Minnesota is 5-2, with a 1-2 record in conference play.
Vegas: Nebraska is a 10.5-point favorite, with a 51.5 point over/under. OddsShark has more.
Weather: Low 40s and partly cloudy.
Three names to know
Ameer Abdullah. One-half of Nebraska's running back duo, the junior is averaging more than seven yards per carry this season.
Quincy Enunwa. The senior from California has been a dangerous weapon for the Cornhuskers this year, averaging more than one touchdown per game.
Theiran Cockran. The Gophers will have to hope their sophomore defensive lineman can find his way into the opposing backfield -- he has four sacks so far this season.
Two things at stake
With a win, Minnesota could prove it’s for real in the Legends Division.
Nebraska needs to keep pace with Michigan State and Michigan with a win here.
