Georgia Tech recruiting 2013: Jackets building solid group of prospects

Georgia Tech has some work to do on the recruiting trail in order to match some of the ACC’s top classes.

Steve Mitchell-USA TODAY Sports

Georgia Tech has 18 commitments in its 2014 recruiting class, though the group lacks any headlining blue-chip prospects. The Jackets’ class ranks 43rd nationally, according to the 247Sports composite rankings, and it is considered the ninth-best class in the ACC.

Most of Tech’s pledges came during the offseason, but Paul Johnson and company have added a few players since the season started. Centers Jake Whitley and Andrew Marshall and guard Gary Brown each committed in September. They’re all consensus three-star prospects.

Here are some of the top names in the Jackets’ class:

Stepheny Durham is a consensus three-star defensive back prospect from Jacksonville (Fla.) Atlantic Coast High School. Durham is considered the No. 389 overall prospect in the 2014 class, making him the highest-rated recruit to commit to Georgia Tech so far. He is the 32nd-ranked player at cornerback and the No. 51 player from the state of Florida.

Linebacker KeShun Freeman is a three-star recruit from Callaway High School in Hogansville, Ga. Freeman is the consensus No. 48 outside linebacker in the nation, and the No. 681 overall prospect. He is regarded as the 59th-best player from the state of Georgia.

Caleb Kinlaw hails from Goose Creek (S.C.) Goose Creek High School. The three-star running back is regarded as the No. 712 overall player in the class, and the No. 44 player at his position.

Marshall, as mentioned above, is a three-star center prospect. The Cumming (Ga.) West Forsyth High School product is ranked as the 11th-best player at his position and the 69th-best player from Georgia.
