Indiana football recruiting 2013: Three new commitments in October, all from Ohio

The Hoosiers still have work to do if they want to climb out of the bottom quartile of the conference, though.

Rick Osentoski-USA TODAY Sports

It’s been a busy October for the Hoosiers, who added three new recruits to their 2014 class. That flurry of moves hasn’t moved the needle much, though -- Indiana’s class of 14 still ranks 60th in the country according to the 247Sports composite, and ninth in the Big Ten. The Hoosiers are currently in a tight battle for that ninth spot, barely edging out Illinois this month. A couple of well-timed commitments from either side could change that.

The first new Hoosier to commit was Cleveland (Ohio) St. Ignatius safety Dameon Willis. A top-100 player at his position this year, the three-star Willis has fantastic size to boot. His reported 6’0, 208-pound frame should fill in nicely once he arrives in Bloomington.

Following Willis were two more commitments from Ohioans: first from Dayton (Ohio) Beavercreek linebacker Airius Moore, considered a top-40 linebacker this year, and then from Cleveland (Ohio) Glenville running back Devine Redding. Both are three-star players on the 247Sports composite, with Redding becoming Indiana’s second-highest rated recruit in the 2014 class. A mere .0004 on the composite separates Redding from Cincinnati (Ohio) Summit Country Day’s Michael Barwick, a three-star defensive tackle who leads the Hoosier class.

Redding will have plenty of blocking coming with him, as well -- Indiana has commitments from three offensive linemen in this class, including St. Petersburg (Fla.) Admiral Farragut Academy’s Delroy Baker and three-star guard DeAndre Herron, who will be transferring over from Iowa Western Community College.
