As teams around the country move on from Week 9 of the season, conferences races are really starting to heat up. Missouri had a chance to lock down the SEC East on Saturday, but a late comeback from South Carolina kept things wide open. Oklahoma knocking off Texas Tech has the Big 12 looking like a three-team race with Baylor leading the pack, while the Pac-12 remains as jumbled as ever outside of Oregon.
College football news: Oregon jumps Florida State, South Carolina banged up
There was no shortage of news across the college football world on Sunday.

Let’s take a look at what made headlines on Sunday.
Oregon jumps Florida State in BCS
As most people expected, Oregon’s win over UCLA on Saturday propelled the Ducks to No. 2 in the latest BCS standings. Alabama remained No. 1, while Ohio State held firm at No. 4. Stanford moved up a spot to No. 5.
Baylor rose two spots to No. 6 while Miami held firm at No. 7 despite not playing well at home against Wake Forest. Clemson, Missouri and Oklahoma round out the top-10.
In related news, Jerry Sagarin continues to tweak his BCS formula in the middle of the season:
Among the top 25 FBS teams in his system, which are the ones that receive a BCS score, Oregon State and Virginia Tech switched spots. In the official BCS release, and in Sagarin’s original rankings last Sunday, the Beavers were sixth and the Hokies seventh. Now, that’s reversed. That would have improved Virginia Tech’s BCS score slightly, but not enough to improve the Hokies’ overall BCS ranking. Sagarin was already the highest rating for OSU by far and is thrown out, so the Beavers’ score doesn’t change.
It doesn’t seem like these changes will have a huge impact on future standings, thought it is certainly something to keep an eye on as the end of the season nears. Will Sagarin continue to find imperfections in his formula?
Gamecocks banged up after Mizzou
South Carolina's win in Columbia did not come without a few bumps and bruises. Quarterback Connor Shaw played with a stomach bug and took a couple big shots, he should be fine moving forward. Here is what head coach Steve Spurrier said about the team's injuries moving forward.
Mike Davis almost sprained his foot. He'll be out most of the week but will hopefully be ready by the weekend. Buster Anderson, Gerald Dixon, Ronald Patrick -- they've got little ankle sprains and will hopefully be ready by the end of the week also. Other than that, we came out with no major injuries, we don't think.
Jim Mora calls out Bruins, Brett Hundley
Mora is never afraid to speak his mind when it comes to the media. Following UCLA’s tough loss to Oregon, Mora had some choice words for his team, including star quarterback Brett Hundley.
Mora, on Hundley: "He needs to shine in these kinds of games before everyone starts talking about the Heisman."

Taylor Martinez’s foot is still hurting him
If the loss to Minnesota wasn’t bad enough for Nebraska, it was revealed on Sunday that quarterback Taylor Martinez’s injured foot is still not 100 percent. Bo Pelini had said for weeks that Martinez would not play until he was fully healthy, though that seemed to change as he started on Saturday in a losing effort. The senior QB believes his foot will eventually get back to being 100 percent, though it’s tough to see him improving if he’s continually stressing it each weekend.
USC releases injury report
The Trojans are dealing with more injuries than just about any team in the country. With a big game looming against Oregon State, USC released an injury report for Friday.
Freshman safety Su'a Cravens is listed as probable. Senior offensive tackle Kevin Graf is questionable, while tight end Shane Sullivan has been ruled out.
Texas burns controversial redshirt
Texas-TCU was delayed for hours due to horrible weather conditions in the area, and Mack Brown pulled a bit of a surprise later in the game, burning the redshirt of star true freshman Tyrone Swoopes. Swoopes, a former four-star recruit who is considered the quarterback of the future at Texas, had not played in the first half of the season, but may play a role down the stretch.
Purdue blacking out for Ohio State romp
The Boilermakers are looking at another likely blowout Saturday against Ohio State, but are at least hoping to do so in style. Purdue will be organizing a blackout for the day game (an odd choice to say the least), with what looks like some pretty slick black helmets.
Arizona State adds four-star linebacker
The Sun Devils didn’t play over the weekend, but the coaching staff still managed to pick up a small victory on the recruiting trail. Derik Calhoun, a four-star outside linebacker out of Southern California, decommitted from USC last weekend and wasted no time giving his pledge to the Sun Devils on Sunday afternoon. He is rated as the 147th-best prospect in the 2014 class.
Tennessee gets four-star defensive end
Butch Jones has been recruiting up a storm in Knoxville, and continues with the Vols’ third line commitment in just over a week -- four-star defensive end Dewayne Hendrix.
