Taylor Martinez injury: Tommy Armstrong starting at QB for Nebraska

For the second straight game, Martinez’s toe injury will keep him from starting.

Nebraska quarterback Taylor Martinez is still recovering from a big toe injury suffered during the Cornhuskers’ loss to UCLA on Sept. 14, and he’ll miss his second game in a row. Backup Tommy Armstrong will start for Bo Pelini’s team Saturday against Illinois.

More on Nebraska: Corn Nation

Martinez hasn't played or practiced since suffering the injury, and in Nebraska's last game, Sept. 21 against South Dakota State, Armstrong split time with Ron Kellogg III. Both QBs performed pretty well: Armstrong was 12-of-15 for 169 yards and a touchdown, and Kellogg was 8-of-9 for 136 yards and a score. Pelini hasn't decided whether the duo will share snaps Saturday.

Martinez was having a fine season before suffering the injury. He’s completed 66.3 percent of his passes for 528 yards, nine touchdowns and one interception, and he connected on 21-of-35 passes for 203 yards and three TDs against the Bruins.
