How to watch Ole Miss vs. Auburn 2013: Preview, TV schedule, odds and more

Ole Miss traveled to Bryant-Denny Stadium last week with high hopes -- the Rebels did not come close to beating Alabama last season, but with an infusion of talented freshman, they figured to have a shot at finishing the job in Tuscaloosa. That was not to be, however, as Alabama played a trademark Alabama type of game, shutting down the Rebels and doing just enough on offense to roll to a 25-0 win. Next up for Ole Miss is another tough road trip, this one to a different Alabama team. There is no time to let a loss like last weekend’s linger. Not in the SEC, where tests come every single week.

Auburn, on the other hand, has had two weeks to prepare for this game, and will likely be raring to go following its loss to LSU. The Tigers will get a second shot at beating a ranked team, although slowing down Bo Wallace and company does not figure to be easy. Getting more efficient play from quarterback Nick Marshall would be a good start, though the Tigers will have help from is their tremendous home-field advantage at Jordan-Hare Stadium.

Rankings and records: Auburn leads the all-time series 27-10, although No. 24 Ole Miss won last season.

Vegas: Ole Miss is a 3-point favorite.

Weather: There is a 60 percent chance of rain with winds up to 10 miles per hour.

Laquon Treadwell (Ole Miss wide receiver) -- As one of Hugh Freeze’s various five-star freshman this year, Treadwell has caught 20 passes for 205 yards, good for second on the team in the latter category and first in the former. He has been tremendous in space, and though he has yet to score this season, he should be a major player for the next couple of years.

Robert Nkemdiche (Ole Miss defensive lineman) -- Another one of those aforementioned five-star freshmen, Nkemdiche has recorded four tackles for loss on the year. Although he is still waiting for his first sack, Nkemdiche has proven to be a nightmare up front and is capable of lining up at either tackle or end. He’s even carried the ball once on special teams. Auburn will have to be aware of him at all times.

Tre Mason (Auburn running back) -- With Nick Marshall barely completing 58 percent of his passes, it has been Mason who has done the work for the Auburn offense so far. Against LSU two weeks ago, Mason single-handedly kept Auburn in the game with his 132-yard, two-touchdown effort. A similar performance would be preferable if Auburn is to upset the Rebels and defend its home turf.

A loss to Alabama dropped Ole Miss to 24th in the AP poll. The Rebels must win to hang onto their ranking and keep pace in a difficult SEC West. Key games against LSU and Texas A&M are just ahead, and both will go a long way toward determining who wins that division.

For Auburn, the stakes in the SEC remain the same -- the Tigers are still in the race even after a tough 35-21 loss to LSU last two weeks ago. They’ll need a win here over the Rebels to remain in the race. A second loss for either team will likely drop it from contention.
