Oklahoma and TCU entered the season as top-20 teams, but they’ve gone in different directions since. The Sooners still haven’t lost and have a marquee win over Notre Dame, and the Horned Frogs fell in a season-opening test against LSU before dropping a game at Texas Tech. Saturday’s game will either continue both sides on their current paths, or it will shake things up and possibly send them in new directions.
The numbers
Rankings and records: The Sooners (4-0, 1-0 Big 12) are ranked 10th in the USA Today Coaches’ Poll and 11th in the Associated Press Top 25, and the Horned Frogs (2-2, 0-1) are unranked. Oklahoma is 8-4 against TCU and has won two consecutive games in the series.
Vegas: Oklahoma opened as a 10-point favorite, and the over-under was set at 47.
Weather: The forecast in Norman calls for a nighttime low of 47 degrees and a 20 percent chance of precipitation.
Three names to know
Oklahoma quarterback Blake Bell didn't start the season as the Sooner's No. 1 signal caller, but when Trevor Knight went down with an injury, the Belldozer stepped in and hasn't looked back. He's completed 71.2 percent of his passes for 683 yards, six touchdowns and zero interceptions so far, and he's rushed for 114 yards and 6.5 per carry.
Bell's top receivers have been Jalen Saunders and Sterling Shepard, who have 17 and 16 receptions, respectively, this season. Shepard has the advantage in receiving yards, 229-183, and they've both hauled in three touchdown passes.
Two things at stake
The Sooners want to stay in the Big 12 and national title hunt, and a loss to the Horned Frogs would significantly dent those hopes. TCU’s season has struggled out of the gate, but an upset win over OU could turn things around and put the Frogs in position to chase a Big 12 championship.
