There was no shortage of news across the college football world on Friday, and none was bigger than the college football playoff committee finally being determined. Let’s take a look at everything that made headlines on the day before gameday.
College football news: Portion of Playoff committee reported, Big 12 defends call
Condoleezza Rice is one of the first 10 people announced as members of the college football playoff selection committee, with more to come.

While we still don’t know a ton about the new Playoff selection committee, we did finally learn of the 10 members who have been made members so far. According to multiple reports, Condoleezza Rice and Archie Manning will be joining a diverse group of athletic directors, conference commissioners and the former superintendent of the Air Force Academy. Here is a full list of the members we know at this point:
Arkansas AD Jeff Long.
Former Air Force Academy superintendent Michael Gould.
Former Big East commissioner Mike Tranghese.
Former March Madness chief Tom Jernstedt.
Former Ole Miss quarterback Archie Manning.
Former U.S. Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice.
Clemson AD Dan Radakovich.
USC AD Pat Haden.
West Virginia AD Oliver Luck.
Wisconsin AD Barry Alvarez.
Texas survived in Ames after a controversial non-fumble call went in its favor. Iowa State coach Paul Rhodes went nuts in his postgame press conference and expected the Big 12 to make a ruling saying the officials made the wrong call.
On Friday, the Big 12 reviewed the play and said there was “not indisputable evidence” to overturn the call. It wasn’t like the conference could really do anything to overturn the final outcome of the game anyway, and now the Cyclones will have to rebound after suffering another one-possession loss.
Keeton, who had emerged as a darkhorse Heisman trophy candidate with a huge first month of the season, went down with what appeared to be a bad knee injury in the first quarter against BYU. He did not return on Friday night, though he did remain on the sidelines with a bag of ice on his knee for a while. He is scheduled to undergo an MRI on Saturday.
Utah State trailed by just three points at the time of Keeton’s injury, but it would go on to lose by a score of 31-14.
On Tuesday night, there were about 20 Ole Miss football players in attendance at a student-run play on campus. During the play, students reportedly began shouting homophobic slurs towards the cast and crew of students.

While no one has directly accused any players of being involved, one unnamed player has already apologized to the students. In addition, every student who attended the play will be required to attend a “dialogue” that will aim to educate and inform those who made the homophobic remarks.
For the second week in a row, the Cornhuskers will be without starting quarterback Taylor Martinez as he deals with a toe injury he suffered in mid-September. Tommy Armstrong will make the start in his place as Nebraska takes on Illinois. Even without Martinez two weeks ago, the Huskers still managed to score 59 points against South Dakota State. Kickoff with the Illini is scheduled for noon.
