Georgia's secondary is taking a hit this weekend as starting safety Tray Matthews was ruled out for the Bulldogs' game at Tennessee. Matthews, a freshman, had been an integral part of Georgia's early success with 20 tackles and a pick.

According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution, Matthews hurt his hamstring during practice on Wednesday. While hamstring injuries are already notoriously tricky injuries, the fact that Matthews already missed most of preseason practice with a hammy pull means that there’s really no telling how long it’ll be before Matthews is ready to go again.
At the very least, it shouldn’t affect Georgia’s chances at Tennessee much (Georgia is an 11-point favorite), as the Tennessee offense is miserable through the air. Games against Missouri and Vanderbilt loom next on the schedule before a much-needed bye week, so if Matthews can’t go for a couple more weeks, the Georgia defense is in for a serious challenge.
