When Texas and Oklahoma play in the annual Red River Rivalry next weekend, the Longhorns will be without starting quarterback David Ash due to lingering effects from a head injury he's been dealing with most of the season. Case McCoy will start in his place.

With the game still a week away, Ash’s injury must be pretty serious for the training staff to already rule him out. He was knocked out of the game against BYU on Sept. 7 and has been limited ever since.
The Longhorns have struggled moving the ball at times with Ash on the sidelines, though they have won two games in a row with McCoy under center. McCoy threw for 244 yards and a touchdown against Iowa State on Thursday night in a controversial 31-30 win.
Even if McCoy plays well, most will have UT as heavy underdogs against the unbeaten Sooners. Oklahoma has dominated the series in recent years, winning three straight and nine of the last 13 meetings. If the Longhorns are blown out next weekend, it could be the end of the Mack Brown era in Austin.
