First, this is all so stupid. I have to get that off my chest immediately. So, so stupid.
Urban Meyer ‘can’t stand’ player’s comments on Bama, FSU
Evan Spencer, who sort of called out Alabama and Florida State, won’t be meeting with the media “for a long time.”

Ohio State head Urban Meyer caught wind of WR Evan Spencer’s comments about how Ohio State would “wipe the floor” with Alabama and Florida State and brought the hammer down on his wideout. As Eleven Warriors notes, that’ll do it for Spencer talking to the media for a while:
“I can’t stand it,” Meyer said.
It came along with a message that Spencer will not be speaking with the media again for a very long time. The disappointment for Meyer came because he views Spencer’s tone and language as poor sportsmanship.
“I don’t like disrespecting other teams,” Meyer said.
Spencer did issue an apology via Twitter shortly after his statement came out:
I did not mean to disrespect any FB team today. I am confident in my team, and as is evident in the video, I was having fun ...

...but apparently that apology wasn’t enough for Meyer.
You know why this is stupid? Because Spencer was clearly, obviously, anyone-who-paid-attention-knows-it kidding. Further, was anybody at Alabama or Florida State actually offended? Who’s out there feeling legitimately, genuinely disrespected?
If there was any negative reaction to the quote, it was from the simpleton college football media horde, which is dying for some sort of OMG CONTROVERSY between these top-ranked programs that are, if we’re being honest, very well-behaved and respectful both on the field and off. Not perfect, no, but certainly miles ahead of your average 20-year-old. And so when Spencer made his clearly obvious joke, the reaction was basically “Ohhhhhhhhhh hey Alabama you gonna take that? Huh? Huh? Huh?” while ignoring the genial nature of the situation.
So now Meyer has to publicly harrumph and put the kibosh on this and denounce all instances of poor sportsmanship. And the idiot machine churns on, the innards of another innocent quote greasing its gears as it manufactures controversy from the void.
