USC RB Silas Redd out with injury vs. Stanford

Once a position of strength, USC’s running back depth is now razor-thin.

Southern Cal running back Silas Redd will miss the Trojans' game against Stanford on Saturday after injuring his right knee last weekend in the third quarter of USC's 62-38 win over Cal.

Redd injured his other knee during spring practice, causing him to miss the Trojans’ first five games of the season. Since his return, Redd has split carries with Tre Madden, Javarious Allen, and Justin Davis, but injuries have caused USC’s once-deep backfield to wear thin. Madden has missed two of the Trojans’ last four games with a lingering hamstring issue, and Davis is out for the rest of the season with an ankle injury.

In addition to dealing with the mid-season firing of Lane Kiffin, the Trojans have had to overcome one devastating injury after another in 2013. USC players who have suffered season-ending injuries in recent weeks include Davis, starting linebacker Lamar Dawson, and offensive lineman Jordan Simmons. The Trojans were also without Marqise Lee for two games after their star wideout injured his knee returning a punt against Arizona State.
