How to watch Georgia vs. Auburn: Preview, TV schedule, odds and more

Just as we all expected prior to the season, Auburn is favored to beat the Georgia Bulldogs on Saturday. Okay, it's doubtful anybody saw that coming, save perhaps for some incredibly optimistic Auburn fans. But here we are.

The Tigers have already tripled their win total from last season -- both their offense and defense rank among the nation’s top 30, according to F/+, which stands as incredible improvement in both cases over last season. Going from the bottom quarter of the FBS to the top quarter works wonders.

Georgia comes into the game on a two-game winning streak, and the Bulldogs should be able to test Auburn’s defense, despite several key injuries.

The numbers

Rankings and records: Georgia is 6-3 (4-2) on the year, which has it at No. 25 in the AP Poll and the BCS standings. At 9-1 (5-1), Auburn is No. 7 in the AP and BCS, as well as No. 9 in the Coaches’ Poll. UGA leads the all-time series 52-50-6.

Vegas: Auburn opened as a three-point favorite.

Weather: The high is expected to hit 69; there is no rain in the forecast.

Three names to know

Aaron Murray -- He remains the steady hand guiding the UGA offense even if his numbers in a few categories aren't quite up to the standards he set in 2012. Murray is completing 63.3 percent of his throws while averaging an outstanding nine yards per attempt.

Tre Mason -- Auburn would run the ball all day if it could, and Mason is a big reason why. He leads an impressive cast of ball carriers with 1,038 yards and 16 yards rushing. The Tigers average 320 yards per game on the ground, and they were so effective against Tennessee last week, they ended attempting just seven passes.

Todd Gurley II -- Gurley was plagued earlier this season by ankle injuries, but he's been able to play in each of the team's last two games. He can be effective even if not completely 100 percent, and he gives the Dawgs a much-needed weapon considering several other skill position players are missing because of serious injuries.

Two things at stake

Auburn’s West Division title hopes are alive despite a loss to LSU earlier in the season; however, the Tigers can’t afford another setback considering undefeated Alabama only has Mississippi State in its path before the showdown with Auburn.

Georgia hasn’t been mathematically eliminated from SEC East contention, but the Bulldogs almost certainly need to win out to have a chance, so it’s safe to say the game against the Tigers is critical for them. Georgia reached bowl eligibility last week, and beating Auburn would put another quality win on its resume for the consideration of bowl officials.
